Your audio. Your device. Always.

Most note-taking apps send your audio to their cloud the moment you tap record. LocalScribe doesn't. Transcription, speaker detection, and summaries all run on your device by default. If you ever want cloud accuracy, it's opt-in — per recording.

On-device by default

Apple Speech, FluidAudio, Apple Intelligence — all on your Neural Engine.

Recording is real-time. Transcription is real-time. Summaries take a few seconds on the device itself. Nothing about your audio touches a third-party server unless you explicitly opt in.

  • Transcription via Apple Speech (iOS 26 SpeechAnalyzer)
  • Speaker detection via FluidAudio's on-device diariser
  • Summaries via Apple Intelligence, processed locally
  • 20 supported languages — every one on-device

When you want cloud accuracy

Studio-grade AI on every paid recording. No engine to pick, no toggles to get wrong.

Every paid recording goes through Claude Opus 4.8 with extended thinking, plus multi-pass fact verification — the most thorough AI summary pipeline shipped in a meeting recorder. No "good", "better", "best" settings. You get best.

  • Claude Opus 4.8 (extended thinking) summaries
  • Multi-pass fact verification on every summary
  • Audit for Accuracy catches the rare mistake
  • Per-recording "No Cloud" override always available

Wherever you work

iPhone first, iPad supported — Mac & Apple Watch coming next.

LocalScribe launches as a universal iPhone and iPad app, with everything synced through your own iCloud account — no LocalScribe account, no third-party sync server. Mac Catalyst and Apple Watch companions are in development for a future release.

  • iPhone — the primary launch device
  • iPad — universal app, optimised for long-form review
  • Mac Catalyst — coming next
  • Apple Watch wrist recording — coming next
  • Recordings sync via your iCloud (end-to-end encrypted with Advanced Data Protection)

Built for serious work

Notes that think with you.

Every recording becomes a study guide, a fact-checker, and a reference library — without ever sending your audio anywhere. New capabilities for students, professionals, and anyone who reads what they record.

⚡ Marked Important

What your lecturer said matters, surfaced automatically.

When the speaker says "this is on the test," "remember this," or "key point" — we pull it out and put it in a callout at the top of your summary. So the stuff you actually need to know is the first thing you see.

⚠ Audit for Accuracy

Catch AI hallucinations before they catch you.

Tap Audit and the AI re-reads your summary against the original transcript, flagging factual errors, contradictions, wrong-speaker attribution, and invented specifics. Underlined inline. Tap any flag to see exactly what's off and why.

🎓 Study Sources

Every meeting becomes a study guide.

Set your profession to Education and every recording surfaces academic papers (OpenAlex) and educational videos (YouTube) matched to the topics in your lecture. Free sources, abstracts included, one tap to the PDF or video.

✨ Smart Search

Find anyone, anything, across every recording.

Ask a natural-language question — "what did Sarah think about pricing," "anything related to legal review" — and we surface the moments that match, ranked by meaning, not just keywords. Filter to one speaker's words to read just their side of every conversation.

🎙️ Tone & Nuance

How it was said matters as much as what was said.

For therapy, sales calls, and hard conversations — multimodal AI listens to the actual audio plus reads the transcript, then writes a structured read of tone, hesitation, emphasis, and emotional shifts. Quotes the exact words that carried weight.

👥 Fix Speakers

When the AI gets a speaker wrong, you fix it in 10 seconds.

Two voices merged into one cluster? Long-press to reassign, or multi-select and split into a new speaker. Every fix teaches the per-user voiceprint store, so the next recording with that person gets it right automatically.

🔒 Locked Folders

Some recordings deserve a second door.

Long-press a folder in the Library and choose Lock with Face ID. Opening it, and removing the lock, both require Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode. No extra password to remember — LocalScribe uses the auth your device already trusts.

📊 Live Meter

Real audio data — not a decorative animation.

During recording, a 16-band FFT spectrum analyzer, REC LED, elapsed time, and numeric dB readout sit at the top of the panel. Bars stay flat in silence and bounce independently on actual frequency content. Prefer minimal? A single toggle in Settings shrinks it to a discreet "REC 0:04" indicator.

✏️ Edit Everything

The AI got it close. You finish it.

One tap opens a full-screen editor for the recording's title and the entire AI summary. Save, and the change propagates everywhere — Library, exports, and the auto-re-exported PDF in your iCloud Drive — stamped with the build that wrote it.

Common questions

Is LocalScribe really private?

Yes. By default, audio is transcribed and summarised on your device's Neural Engine — nothing leaves. Starter and Pro subscribers can opt-in to cloud features for higher accuracy, but it's per-recording and clearly labelled. A "No Cloud" toggle pins sensitive recordings to fully on-device.

Do I need to invite a bot to meetings?

No. LocalScribe records directly from your phone, laptop, or watch microphone. That means it works for in-person meetings, phone calls, dictation, lectures, depositions — anywhere there's sound. No Zoom integration required.

What devices does it support?

iPhone (primary launch device) and iPad (universal app). Mac Catalyst and Apple Watch versions are in development. Recordings sync through your iCloud — start on one device, finish reviewing on another.

Is my data shared with OpenAI or Anthropic?

Only when you opt-in to a paid-tier cloud feature for a specific recording. Different features use different providers:

  • Summaries — Anthropic Claude Opus 4.8 (transcript text only, no audio).
  • Cloud transcription — Deepgram Nova-3 (audio is sent).
  • Audit for Accuracy — OpenAI GPT-4o (transcript text only).
  • Tone & Nuance — OpenAI gpt-audio (audio is sent — this feature is multimodal).
  • Smart Search — OpenAI text-embedding-3-small (text only).

Every provider contractually does not train on customer data. All cloud paths are opt-in per recording or per feature. Full sub-processor list in our Privacy Policy.

Can I edit the AI summary after it's written?

Yes. Every recording has an Edit Everything button that opens a full-screen editor for both the title and the entire summary. Saving updates the Library, the auto-re-exported PDF in your iCloud Drive, and any future shares — all from one place.

What happens if I open a recording while offline?

Everything except the audio is available immediately — PDF, transcript, and summary all load locally. The audio file syncs down from iCloud in the background, and the playback bar appears as soon as it's on the device. No more locked screens while iCloud catches up.

Can I lock specific recordings behind Face ID?

Yes. In the Library, long-press a folder and choose Lock with Face ID. Opening that folder, and removing the lock, both require Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode. There's no separate password to manage — LocalScribe defers to the auth your device already trusts.

What if a regulator audits me?

Every LocalScribe recording shows its exact processing path: which engine transcribed it, whether cloud features were used, whether audio left the device. That metadata is exportable. The "No Cloud" override is per-recording and persisted, giving you a verifiable compliance trail.
